General English

At a Glance

At CCEL, our General English (GE) courses are designed for students who want to boost their English skills and become effective communicators. Whether you’re a beginner or aiming for advanced proficiency in English language, we offer GE at six different levels to suit your needs. You will be placed into a class with other students at your level.

Course Length

2 – 50 weeks

  • Full-time classes are 20 hours per week.
  • Part-time classes are 15 hours per week, available for students aged 18 and above.

Levels Available

Beginner to Advanced (6 Levels).

Part-time is only available for students 18 years+.

Minimum Entry Levels

No entry requirement.

Placement Test on arrival.

What You’ll Learn

In GE courses, your lessons will include speaking, listening, reading, and writing, all while developing your vocabulary and grammar. Classes are immersive and interesting, with regular progress testing. You will also learn a lot about New Zealand culture and customs.

Flexible Options

You can choose between full-time and part-time study to fit your lifestyle. Full-time classes are 20 hours per week, while part-time classes are 15 hours per week, available for students aged 18 and above.

Start Dates and Duration

Classes start every Monday (or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday), and you can enrol for anywhere from 2 to 50 weeks, depending on your goals and availability.

Course Fees

Tuition fees vary based on the length of your course. For full-time study, prices range from NZD 453 to NZD 432 per week, and for part-time, it’s NZD 350 per week, plus additional enrolment and materials fees.

What You’ll Achieve

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

  • Hold conversations on a range of topics in English.
  • Understand clear speech in everyday situations.
  • Understand factual information related to daily life or work.
  • Write about your experiences, including your study abroad experience in New Zealand.

Placement and Assessment

Don’t worry about your starting level; we’ll assess you on the first day and place you in a class with other students at your level. Throughout the course, we’ll continuously assess your progress, providing individual progress reports and we will support you every step of the way.
